Why Your Builder Website Isn’t Showing Up on Google…

Your work’s solid. Your site exists. But Google still isn’t showing you. Let’s fix that before another job slips away.

Builder checking laptop on kitchen table

“I’ve Got a Website… So Where Are the Calls?”

You put in the work.

Picked the photos. Wrote the words. Maybe even paid someone to “do your SEO”.

And what did you get?

Crickets.

  • No calls.
  • No leads.
  • No new jobs.

You’re not alone. We see this every week.

One builder we worked with spent over £1,200 on a website… and got zero leads for three months. Turns out, it was invisible on Google. Literally unfindable.

“Feels like I’ve built a ghost town.”

Let’s be clear: It’s not your fault. But it is costing you jobs.

What’s Actually Going Wrong?

❌ “Having a website” ≠ Getting found

Most builders think just being online is enough.

But if your site isn’t showing up in the top search results or in the Google Maps box, you don’t exist to most customers.

1. ❌ Your Site Doesn’t Say Where You Work

Google doesn’t guess.

If your website says, “We do general building work across Kent”… that’s too vague.

What people actually type is:

  • “kitchen extension Sittingbourne”
  • “garage conversion near me”
  • “builder for loft conversion Canterbury”

If your site isn’t using those words, Google doesn’t know who to send to you.

You’re not broken. Your messaging is.

2. ❌ You’re Showing Work… That’s 3 Years Old.

Google rewards freshness.

If your best job only lives in WhatsApp photos or a quick Facebook post, no one sees it.

Google rewards sites that:

  • Show real recent project images
  • Get regular reviews
  • Talk clearly about location + services

Post recent work. Mention the town. Keep it moving.

“Wraparound kitchen extension just finished in Strood, on time and on budget.”

Short and sharp is fine, just don’t go stale.

3. ❌ Your Form Doesn’t Work (or Looks Dodgy)

You’d be amazed how many sites we check with:

  • Forms that don’t send anywhere
  • “Get a Quote” buttons that go nowhere
  • Fields missing or confusing on mobile

Go test yours right now.

If it doesn’t email or text you when filled out, you’re losing leads without knowing.

4. ❌ Your Form Doesn’t Work (or Looks Dodgy)

If you’re not showing up in the local map 3-pack, leads are going to someone else.

You’d be amazed how many sites we check with:

  • Forms that don’t send anywhere
  • “Get a Quote” buttons that go nowhere
  • Fields missing or confusing on mobile

Go test yours right now.

5. ❌ Your Site Uses Keywords, But Not Where Google Looks

You might say “builder” on the homepage… But Google checks:

  • Page title (that shows in search)
  • Meta description (the grey text)
  • H1 and subheadings
  • First paragraph
  • Image file names and alt text

That’s where local SEO 2025 happens.

Miss those, and your site vanishes.

So What Does a “Visible” Builder Website Actually Look Like?

Here’s what works right now, and what we apply in our audits:

🧱 Homepage Headline (H1)

“Trusted Extension Builders in Rochester & Medway”

✔ Local keywords

✔ Tells people what you do and where

✔ Google loves it

📋 Short Introduction (First Paragraph)

“We’re a small, family-run building company based in Medway. We specialise in home extensions, loft conversions and full builds across Kent. If you’re looking for a builder who shows up, stays on budget and leaves the place spotless, give us a call.”

  ✔ Builder tone

✔ Local SEO baked in

✔ Speaks to real homeowner concerns

📸 Real Photos

  • Not Stock
  • Not filtered

These top two are a big no, no. Google knows when you do this, and it punishes you for doing it.

  • And don't bury them in your footings 10 clicks deep

💡 Page Structure

Use this layout:

  • H1 with service + location
  • Paragraph with proof
  • Image
  • Subheading with client concern
  • Clear next step CTA

Repeat the same logic on every service page. It’s simple and it works.

Still Not Sure If You’re Showing Up?

Here’s how to test it in 2 minutes:

  1. Open a private/incognito tab
  2. Google these:
  • “builder near me”
  • “home extension [your town]”
  • “loft conversion [your town]”

3. Are you on Page 1? In the map 3-pack?

If not, it’s a visibility issue, and your site isn’t pulling its weight.
